"Gravity Fed" Hanger Retrieval Rack
Please let me explain the purpose of my hanger rack, the concept behind it and the reason I created it. It is a modification of an existing product that is necessary to operate any retail store that sells clothing. My invention is called the "Gravity Fed" Hanger Retrieval Rack. My rack eliminates 'repetitive motion' for employees in the workplace when retrieving hangers after the sale of a clothing item in the check stand area.
I have been a General Manager in a retail clothing store for 14 years. Five years ago, one of my cashiers was placing a hanger on a traditional horizontal rack and as she pushed the merchandise to the side, she felt a sharp pain in her wrist. The more hangers there are the heavier they are to push to the side. She had to undergo surgery to repair her injury and it was reported to Workman's Compensation Insurance, as a repetitive motion injury. This claim increased our insurance premium dramatically for years.
I went home and thought about how I could eliminate this kind of injury from happening again. I then went to my garage and created a rack that was gravity fed, which eliminated the effort of having to push. My first rack worked as planned. Then I made three more racks for the other check stands. My rack is not only functional but it is on wheels and totally mobile. It can be turned to accommodate right handed as well as left handed employees. It is ergonomically correct in that it is vertically adjustable to accommodate the height of the employee. The legs can be adjusted up or down or removed for storage with the push of a button. The full hanger rack can be transported to a permanent storage location. Each rack holds approximately 300 hangers. It is compact and light weight. My racks are inexpensive to build and simple in design.
My rack is packaged and I am ready to proudly demonstrate it to any manufacturer that is interested in making a profit from such a simple design. The clothing industry is huge. The need is there!
