"Several years ago as I was standing on a kitchen stool in my living room to change a light bulb in the ceiling light fixture, the legs of the stool suddenly collapsed causing me to fall. Immediately, the idea occurred to me how wonderful it would be to have ceiling light fixtures in a home that could be pulled down easily by a rod with a hook on the end of it where a person wouldn’t have to take chances of falling or getting seriously injured. I worked on developing the concept of my invention and received a full patent from the U.S Patent Office last year. I wish to have my invention licensed and produced.
I lived in an apartment complex with older people who would have to call the maintenance man to change a bulb every time one burned out. Many were frail, crippled, were disabled, had vertigo, or were too heavy to be able to climb up on anything to change a light. With my invention, even people who are in wheel chairs can change a light bulb without having to ask for help.
With more people living longer lives, having light fixtures like my invention will be a boon to independent living. People in nursing homes or retirement homes will appreciate these light fixtures. Churches with cathedral-like ceilings can use rods that can be extended long enough to reach the highest ceiling light fixture. The fixture can be pulled down to where a person is sitting or standing, change the bulb, and then give a little jerk with the rod to raise the fixture back up by small cables to the ceiling in a similar manner to a person’s raising a window shade. No motor is required so the mechanism will be less likely to have any mechanical failures.
Everywhere I have lived I have not seen any light fixtures in stores like my invention. I will be the first person to buy my invention once it is produced! The light fixture is needed in millions of homes and businesses. With more and more people experiencing longer lives, the market for my invention will grow. One hundred percent of the people I know and with whom I have spoken have stated a preference for my invention rather than having to climb on a ladder or stool to change their light bulbs.
I envision my light fixtures being sold in stores such as Wal-Mart, Sam’s, Home Depot, Lowes, and Target."
